MBB Tops Lesley For Sixth-Straight Win

MEDFORD, Mass. – The Mitchell College men's basketball team opened New England Collegiate Conference play with a commanding 107-65 victory at Lesley University on Wednesday night.

Mitchell won its sixth-straight game and improved to 11-8 overall (1-0 NECC). The Mariners shot 53 percent for the game and forced 30 turnovers, turning the miscues into a 39-9 scoring advantage.

Alfonzo Stokes led six Mariners in double figures with 18 points on 6-for-10 shooting and added five rebounds. Wilton Causey added 16 points and five rebounds while Jalen Benson tacked on 15 points and six assists. Jacob Narvaez chipped in 12 points while Hunter Baillargeon and Robert Zirlis finished with 11 points apiece.

Mikey Buscetto continued his stellar play at the point guard spot, handing out a game-high 15 assists while adding seven points on only four field goal attempts. He's now recorded double-digit assist totals in his last three outings, giving him a total of 48 during the span.

Mitchell didn't trail after a layup by Zirlis put the visitors in front just 1:39 into the contest. The Mariners got 14 first-half points from Stokes while racing out to a 57-33 lead by intermission.

Baillargeon hit three treys and netted all 11 of his points in the second half as Mitchell built the lead to as many as 45. The Mariners cracked the century mark for the second time this season—both times coming against the Lynx.

Marco Powells led Lesley (2-12 overall) with 17 points.

Mitchell will next play at New England College on Saturday, February 5 at 3:30 p.m.
