Benson Tabbed NECC Player of the Week

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Mitchell College senior Jalen Benson (New London, Conn.) was named New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Week for the sport of men's basketball, as announced by the league on Monday morning. 

The senior guard averaged 15.7 points, 5.3 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 3.3 steals per game, helping guide Mitchell to a 3-0 record on the week with wins against Dean College, Lehman College, and St. Joseph's University (Brooklyn).

Benson rounded out his big week by being named Most Outstanding Player of the Cadet-Mariner Classic Tournament, which featured Mitchell College, Lehman College, St. Joseph's University, and the US Coast Guard Academy. He finished with 19 points, nine assists, six rebounds, three steals, and three blocks against St. Joseph's on Saturday in an 80-60 victory, shooting 61.5% from the floor.

This came just one day after scoring 17 points on 57.1% shooting against Lehman in an 81-61 win, in which he also had three rebounds, three assists, and four steals. 

Mitchell (4-1) will next play Albertus Magnus on Tuesday, November 22 at home before a brief break for the Thanksgiving holiday.
