MBB Draws #11 Johns Hopkins in NCAA First Round

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Mitchell College men's basketball team will face Johns Hopkins University at Goldfarb Gym in the first round of the 2023 NCAA Division III Championship on Friday, March 3 at 6:00 pm.

The Mariners (23-4 overall) will make their fourth NCAA appearance against the eleventh-ranked team in the country, according to the latest D3hoops.com poll. Johns Hopkins enters the tournament with an overall record of 23-4, having won 13 of their last 14 games.

Mitchell earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship by winning the New England Collegiate Conference Championship. The Mariners defeated third-seeded New England College by a 109-85 final in the title game to secure the league's automatic bid for the fourth time since 2014.

The Blue Jays earned an at large NCAA bid after falling to fifteenth-ranked Swarthmore 76-73 in the Centennial Conference Championship game. Johns Hopkins will be making their 15th trip to the NCAA Tournament, including their fourth in five full seasons under head coach Josh Loeffler.

Johns Hopkins will host the first and second rounds of the tournament which begins on Friday with a contest between Hamilton College (19-8 overall) and Montclair State (22-5) at 3:30 pm. The winners of Friday's first-round games will meet on Saturday, March 4 at 6:00 pm.
