Clardy Named GNAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

WINTHOP, Mass. – Mitchell College junior Jaylyn Clardy (Pensacola, Fla.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the spring of men's basketball, as announced by the league on Monday afternoon. It marks the first time this season that a member of the Mitchell men's basketball program has garnered Player of the Week honors.

Clardy turned in a strong week for the Mariners, averaging 26 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 4.7 assists while leading the team to a 2-1 record. The guard also collected one steal and one block per contest, while shooting 51.1% from the floor, 44.4% from three-point range, and 91.7% from the free-throw line.

In two games against GNAC opponents, Clardy averaged 22 points, 10 rebounds, and 4.0 assists. He began the week by recording a double-double in a conference win over Elms, finishing with 13 points, 10 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 3.0 steals. Clardy then upped his game by pouring in a career-high 34 points, to go along with six rebounds and six assists in Mitchell's first victory over Wesleyan University, a 95-79 blowout. The senior then capped his week with his second consecutive 30-point game on Saturday in GNAC showdown with Emmanuel, scoring 31 points to go along with 10 rebounds, three assists, and three blocks.

Entering the new week, Clardy leads the conference in scoring, averaging 20.9 point per game on 45.3% shooting from the floor, 39.4% from downtown, and 81.2% from the stripe.

The Mariners (5-12, 2-4 GNAC) will return to action on Wednesday, January 24th, when they host the University of Saint Joseph in the second game of a conference doubleheader with the Blue Jays.
