Clardy Lands on D3hoops.com Team of the Week

NEW LONDON, Conn. - On the heels of being named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week for the first time this season, Mitchell College junior Jaylyn Clardy also garnered national recognition on Tuesday.

Clardy, who is averaging 20.9 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game, was one of five players named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week. The popular web site, now in its 27th season, recognizes the top individual performances from across the country for the previous week. Clardy was selected for the first time in his career and he becomes the fourth Mitchell player to ever earn the distinction, joining Jacob Narvaez (January 2022), Domenico Santiago (January 2018) and Joshua Ford (December 2013).

The senior guard averaged 26 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 4.7 assists while leading the Mariners to a 2-1 record on the week. Clardy also collected one steal and one block per contest, while shooting 51.1% from the floor, 44.4% from three-point range, and 91.7% from the free throw line. He surpassed 30-points in two of the three games, including a career-high 34 points in a non-conference victory over Wesleyan University, the first time in the Division III era of the program Mitchell has taken down the Cardinals. His play remained strong across two conference games, as he averaged 22 points, 10 rebounds, and 4.0 assists against GNAC opponents, including a 31-point performance against Emmanuel College and a double-double against Elms College, where he tallied 13 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and three steals.

The Mariners (5-12, 2-4 GNAC) will return to action with a home GNAC game against the University of Saint Joseph on Wednesday, January 24th, at 7:00 pm.
