Men’s Basketball Downed on Senior Day

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College men's basketball team suffered a 98-74 setback against Saint Joseph's College (ME) on Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) clash at the Yarnall Athletic Center.

Prior to the game, the Mariners celebrated Senior Day and honored their five seniors; Noah James (New London, Conn.), Jaylyn Clardy (Pensacola, Fla.), Robert Zirlis (Clinton, Conn.), Justin Radford (New Haven Conn.), and Wilton Causey (Worcester, Mass.).

Jaylyn Clardy poured in a game-high 25 points and added six rebounds. Fellow senior Robert Zirlis netted 10 points, while junior Walker Baillargeon (Norwich, Conn.) chipped in nine points off the bench, shooting 3-5 from beyond the arc.

Remijo Wai scored a team-high 21 points in the win for the Monks, while adding nine rebounds, four steals, and three assists.

The Mariners (14-8, 6-5 GNAC) host Rivier University on Tuesday, February 18, at 7:00 pm for their next game. The Monks (19-4, 11-1 GNAC) jump back into conference play on Tuesday, February 18, when they host Norwich University.
