Mitchell Golf Tees Off 2010 Season at Nichols

DUDLEY, Mass. – The Mitchell College men's golf team opened the 2010 season with a tri-match against Nichols College and Anna Maria College on Wednesday afternoon at Dudley Hill Golf Course.

Jon-Paul Chouinard fired a one-under 71 to lead Nichols to a first place finish. Nichols shot a composite 305 to finish ahead of Anna Maria (330) and Mitchell (348) in the "B" match. Chouinard finished five strokes ahead of his nearest competitor and, after firing a one-under on the front nine, finished out the back at even par.

Anna Maria's Christopher Kusz rallied from a tough front nine to place second with a 76 (+4) while senior Drew Norris was the top finisher for Mitchell with a 78 (+6). Norris also fared better on the back nine with a 38 and placed fifth overall.

Senior John Pescheta shot a round of 82 (+10) in his season debut while sophomore Justin Szela carded an 86 (+14) in his first collegiate round. Rounding out the scoring for the Mariners were junior Richard Palaia (102) and senior Dan Varga (106).

Mitchell returns to action on Friday, September 17 at Becker College.
