Men's Golf Competes at Blazers Invitational


GRANBY, Mass. – The Mitchell College men's golf team competed at the Blazers' Invitational on Wednesday afternoon at Westover Golf Course. 

Elms College's Phil Rurak and Henry Fall and Rhode Island College's Tim Leigh each shot a one-over-par 73 to earn a triple share of individual medalist honors, and the Blazers earned a team score of 309 to finsih first in the 15-team field.

Rhode Island finished in second place with a team score of 311 and Emmanuel College totaled a 325 to place third. Westfield State University finished fourth (329), Castleton State College (331) and Anna Maria College (331), Franklin Pierce University followed with a 334, Newbury College (336), Nichols College (343), The Sage Colleges (346), MCLA (355), Becker College (358), Worcester State University (372), Daniel Webster College (391) and Mitchell College (397) completed the field. 

Anchormen golfer Kyle Harper and Castleton State's Bryan Fitzgerald turned in rounds of 76 to finish in a tie for fourth place and round out the top five individual finishers. 

One of the major highlights of the event was a hole-in-one on the fourth hole by Castleton State's Daniel Hogan. Hogan finished with a 41 on both the front and back nine to finish with a round of 82 for the event. 

Freshman Max Jewett led the Mariners with a season-low round of 88 and finished tied for 45th overall. Juniors Nick Braunreuther and John McGowan each carded rounds of 102 while sophomore Joshua Muckle rounded out the team scoring with a 105.

Mitchell will next compete at the NECC Championship on October 6-7.
