Golf's Jewett Named NECC Rookie of the Week

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Mitchell College freshman Max Jewett was named New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Rookie of the Week for the sport of men's golf, as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.

Jewett shot a career-low round of 88 and tied for 45th overall at the Blazers Invitational last week to lead the Mariners. The round was also the lowest by a Mitchell golfer this season. He becomes the first Mitchell golfer to earn NECC weekly honors since Michael Baker was tabbed rookie of the week in September 2009.

Jewett has played in three tournaments this fall and has posted Mitchell's low round in each. He began his collegiate career with a 97 in a tri-match at Newbury College and also recorded a 90 in a head-to-head match against Rhode Island College.

Mitchell will next compete at the NECC Championship on October 6-7 at Passaconaway Country Club in Litchefield, N.H.
