Men's Golf Opens Season at Newbury

BROOKLINE, Mass. – The Newbury College men's golf team held off Emmanuel College and Mitchell College on Thursday afternoon at Putterham Golf Course. 

Newbury's Ray Lilley responded from a rough front nine with a 39 on the back, carding an 80 on the day to lead the Nighthawks to a team score of 325. Matteo Pocobene led the Saints (337) and was the only player on the day to break 80, finishing with a seven-over-par 78 to take medalist honors.

Sophomore Matt Grudgen was the low scorer for the Mariners, coming in with a score of a 92 to lead the Mariners to a 392 finish.  Freshman Mark Cardi and junior Joshua Muckle came in one shot apart from each other, firing a 98 and 99, respectively. Senior Chris Heller (103) and freshman Orson Sinclair (148) rounded out the scoring on the day for Mitchell.

Mitchell will return to Newbury's home course for an event on Friday, September 20.
