Shea Takes Medalist Honors in Collegiate Debut

GROTON, Conn. - Mitchell College freshman Matt Shea took medalist honors at the Mitchell College Tournament on Wednesday afternoon at Shennecossett Golf Course.

Shea shot a three-over-par round of 74 in his collegiate debut to best the field of 25 golfers, edging Newbury College's AJ Skinner by one shot. Elms College finished with the low team score at 324 while Emmanuel College (329), Mitchell (335), Newbury (336) and Eastern Nazarene College (454) rounded out the field.

The Mariners, who posted their lowest team score since 2009, also received strong rounds from both Andrew Abbott (79) and Andres Sprick (89). Matt Grudgen (93) and Ryan Swarts (97) completed the Mitchell scoring.

Mitchell returns to action on Friday, September 11 in a head-to-head match at Albertus Magnus College.
