Abbott Wins Nighthawk Tournament, Mariners Finish Third


BROOKLINE, Mass. – Mitchell College freshman Andrew Abbott finished atop the 26-player field at the Nighthawk Kickoff Classic Tournament on Monday afternoon at the Robert T. Lynch Golf Club, helping the Mariners to a third-place finish at the event.

Abbott finished the day with an even-par score of 71. The Walpole native was lights out on the back nine, recording four birdies from the 12th hole to the 16th to secure medalist honors. It marked the second individual win by a Mitchell golfer this season, as teammate Matt Shea was victorious on September 9 in Mitchell's home tournament.

Wentworth Institute of Technology finished first in the five-team field with a team score of 321. Newbury College placed second at 333 while Mitchell was eight shots back at 341. Emmanuel College (362) and Eastern Nazarene College (440) rounded out the team scoring.

Wentworth sophomore Paul Arsenault led the Leopards with a two-over par round of 73 to finish second. Newbury freshman JayCub Lever rounded out the top three by carding a career-low round of 75. 

Shea tied for sixth overall with a round of 83. Ryan Swarts and Andres Sprick turned in rounds of 93 and 94, respectively, while Matt Grudgen finished at 100.

Mitchell returns to action at Newbury on Wednesday, September 23 at 11 a.m.
