Shea Takes Top Honors as Golf Finishes Second at Emmanuel


HYDE PARK, Mass. - Freshman Matt Shea earned individual medalist honors for the second time this season on Wednesday afternoon while helping the Mitchell College men's golf team to a second-place finish at the Emmanuel College Invitational at the George Wright Golf Course.

Shea carded a round of 76 on the par-70 track, besting Emmanuel's Colin Cordero by a single shot for the top spot. Shea posted 39 on the front and 37 on the back to lead the field of 20 golfers.

Classmate Andrew Abbott recorded an 80 as the Mariners finished with a team round of 358. Matt Grudgen (95), Andres Sprick (107) and Eric Davey (114) rounded out the scoring for Mitchell on the day.


Cordero's round of 77 helped Emmanuel capture first place with a team score of 352, just six shots ahead of Mitchell. Suffolk University combined for a 362 for a third-place finish while Daniel Webster College rounded out the field with a 364.
