Golf Finishes 13th at Westfield State

WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Mitchell College men's golf team finished 13th overall at the Westfield State University Invitational on Tuesday afternoon at Tekoa Country Club.

Babson College's Martin Jensen shot a 1-over par 72 to win the individual title. He also led the Beavers to the team title as they turned in a score of 292, the only team in the field of 14 to break 300.

Jensen carded four birdies, three bogeys and one double bogey in the winning round on the 6,315-yard Donald Ross/Geoffrey Cornish layout. He doubled his first hole of the day, then went around the next 17 holes in 1-under par, finishing with a par to secure the win. He finished a stroke ahead of a trio of players, including teammates Pranav Mohan and Luc Linmayr and Worcester State's Steven Ferraro.

Babson dominated the team scoring, finishing 14 shots ahead of second-place Rhode Island College (306) and 17 in front of the host Owls, who turned in a strong performance with a team score of 309.

Mitchell's top finisher was David Eichelberg, who finished tied for 39th with a round of 86. Michael Izzo (89), Jake Hancock (98) and Orson Sinclair (103) also contributed to the Mariners team score of 376.

The event served as a tune-up for the 2016 New England Collegiate Conference Championship, which will be held on October 1-2 at Wachusett Country Club in West Boylston, MA. Six teams will battle for the conference crown over the 36-hole event. Tee times for each round begin at 11 a.m.
