Golf Finishes Sixth at NECC Championship; Knisel Earns All-Conference Honors

WEST BOYLSTON, Mass. -- Mitchell College finished sixth out of seven teams at the 2017 New England Collegiate Conference Men's Golf Championship on Sunday afternoon at Wachusett Golf Country Club.

A day after carding the lowest round by a Mitchell golfer in the NECC Championship, sophomore Nick Knisel shot an 80 to secure a ninth-place finish and a spot on the all-conference second team. He is the first Mariner to earn all-conference status since 2008, and his two-day total of 156 is the lowest ever by a Mitchell golfer in the 10-year history of the tournament.

David Eichelberg was one of two players in the field to record an eagle in the tournament and shaved three strokes off his first-round score. His round of 85 gave him a two-day total of 173 and tied him for 21st overall.

Michael Izzo recorded a round of 90 and finished 28th overall with a tournament score of 178. Jake Hancock followed his opening round of 96 with a 98 and placed 32nd overall, while Matt Green shot 115 to finish 34th.
