Golf's Knisel Tabbed NECC Rookie of the Week

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Mitchell College sophomore Nick Knisel was named New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week for the sport of men's golf, as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.

Knisel tied his season-low round of 76 to finish as runner-up in a field of 31 golfers at the Mitchell Invitational last week. He carded a pair of birdies to go along with 10 pars, and his efforts helped the Mariners secure a third-place finish.

The event capped a solid season for the Knisel, who logged 10 rounds in nine events and led the team in scoring average (80.6). Earlier this season he became the first Mitchell golfer to earn all-conference status since 2008, landing a spot on the second team by finishing ninth at the 2017 NECC Championship on Oct. 1. His two-day total of 156 was the lowest ever by a Mitchell golfer in the 10-year history of the conference tournament.
