Men's Golf Closes Season with Home Win

GROTON, Conn. – The Mitchell College men's golf team wrapped up a successful 2018 season by winning the Mitchell Invite III on Wednesday afternoon at Shennecossett Golf Course.

The Mariners shot a team round of 323 to edge Dean College by 13 strokes. Albertus Magnus College rounded out the field of three teams with a total of 408.

Mitchell's Nick Knisel finished as the individual medalist with a round of 76, claiming his second win of the season. He birdied two holes in his round and led the field of golfers in par-3 (+1) and par-4 (+2) scoring.

Michael McCarthy also posted a strong score for the Mariners, finishing third overall at 78. His 11 pars tied for the most in the tournament. Teammates Sam Gaboury and Michael Izzo rounded out the scoring with rounds of 84 and 85, respectively.

Dean's Charlie Banks led the field with three birdies on the day and finished as runner-up, just one shot behind Knisel at 77. Mike McAuliffe's round of 81, which also featured 11 pars, was good enough for a fourth-place showing.

Jason Brennan posted the low round for Albertus Magnus at 87.
