Mitchell Places Third at Mitchell Invite III

GROTON, Conn. -- Despite shooting its lowest round of the season, the Mitchell College men's golf team finished third out of three teams at the Mitchell Invite III on Tuesday afternoon at Shennecossett Golf Course.

Elms College carded a team round of 319 to lead the field, edging Albertus Magnus College (324) by five strokes. The Mariners came in at 335, seven shots better than their previous low round of the year.

AMC's Ryan Sember took home individual medalist honors with a four-over-par round of 75, two shots clear of Elms' Frankie Murray and Mitchell's Michael McCarthy. Sember enjoyed a steady round that included 14 pars, matching Murray for the most on the day. McCarthy and Elms' John Keegan led the field with three birdies each on their scorecards.

Two Mariners--Michael Izzo and Jakob Margetta--turned in their best rounds of the season. Izzo tied his low round with an 84 while Margetta came in at 100. Nick Knisel and Christopher Ronzello rounded out the scoring for Mitchell with an 86 and 88, respectively.

Mitchell will next compete at the MASCAC Championship on October 5-6 at Wachusett Country Club.
