Men's Golf Finishes Seventh at MASCAC Championship

WEST BOYLSTON, Mass. -- Mitchell College slipped one spot during Sunday's final round at the 2019 MASCAC Men's Golf Championship and finished seventh in the field of nine at Wachusett Country Club.

Springfield College took home the team title with a two-day total of 616, six shots better than runner-up Westfield State University. Springfield's Mike Strong and Corey Roya and Westfield's J.J. Newcombe all tied for the tournament lead with totals of 152 over 36 holes.

The Mariners shot 352 in the final round to finish at 686 for the tournament. Nick Knisel, who started the day in a tie for third, shot 86 to finish in a tie for 12th at 160. Michael McCarthy carded his second consecutive round of 84 to finish at 168 while Michael Izzo bettered his first round score by two strokes to shoot 85 and finish at 172. Christopher Ronzello rounded out the scoring with a 97 and had a two-day total of 186.

Mitchell will next play at the EC Saints Invite on Thursday, October 10 at South Shore Country Club in Hingham, Mass.
