McLean Wins Mitchell Invite
GROTON, Conn. -- The Mitchell College men's golf team opened the 2021 season by finishing second at the Mitchell Invite on Wednesday afternoon at Shennecossett Golf Course.
Albertus Magnus College took home the team title with a score of 332, besting Mitchell (345) and Eastern Nazarene College (366). Mitchell's Shamus McLean topped the field of 18 golfers with a five-over-par round of 76 to take medalist honors.
The Mariners also got a solid round from Michael McCarthy, who finished in a three-way tie for runner-up at 78. Jack Hayes, one of three Mitchell golfers who made his collegiate debut, carded a round of 89. Newcomers Micheal Thompson and Eric Lawlor contributed scores of 102 and 106, respectively, to round out the scoring for the Mariners.
Mitchell will next compete at the MASCAC Championship Preview on Tuesday, September 14 at Berkshire Hills Country Club in Pittsfield, Mass.
