Golf Notches Third at Brett Williamson Invitational

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- The Mitchell College men's golf team shot 324 en route to a third-place finish at the Brett Williamson Invitational on Thursday afternoon at Tekoa Country Club.

The Mariners finished only 13 shots behind tournament winner Eastern Connecticut State University, which bested the field of 11 with a team score of 311. Host Westfield State was five shots off the pace and finished as runner-up.

Mitchell newcomer Jack Hayes posted his lowest round of the season with a five-over-par 76 to finish in a three-way tie for second place. Albertus Magnus' Ryan Sember shot 73 to earn medalist honors.

Shamus McLean and Michael McCarthy carded rounds of 80 and 81, respectively, and finished just outside of the top 10. Nick Knisel rounded out the scoring for the Mariners with an 87.

Mitchell will next compete at Mount St. Mary's on Tuesday, September 28 at the Powelton Club.
