McLean Takes Top Spot at Mitchell Invite II

GROTON, Conn. -- The Mitchell College men's golf team shot a 342 en route to a third place finish at the Mitchell Invite II on Wednesday afternoon at Shennecossett Golf Course.

Mount St. Mary College took home the team title, shooting a 312, while Western Connecticut State University was runner up with a 328. For the second consecutive week at Shennecossett Mitchell's Shamus McLean earned medalist honors by shooting a one-over-par 72.

This continues what has been a strong season for the Mitchell junior, who took medalist honors at the Mitchell Invite I one last week, firing a one-under-par round of 70. That score was the second-lowest round in school history, and only the second time a Mitchell golfer has finished under par.

Mitchell's Jaxson Hinshaw finished in a three way tie for ninth place with an 84, while Ryan King and Micheal Thomspon contributed scores of 87 and 99 respectively.

Patrick Shea (74) and Matt Ropiak (77) of Mount St. Mary College rounded out the top three of individual finishers, and Francis Braun had the top day for Western, shooting a 80.

Next up for the Mariners is a trip tp William J. Devine GC in Dorchester, Massachusetts on Tuesday, September 20th, where they will battle Emmanuel.
