McLean Medals as Golf Wraps Season

GROTON, Conn. -- The Wesleyan University men's golf team claimed the Mitchell Invite IV on Wednesday afternoon at Shennecossett Golf Course.

The Cardinals shot a team round of 318 to win by 13 strokes over Western Connecticut State University (331). Eastern Connecticut State University (341), Mitchell College (359), and Emmanuel College (364) rounded out the field.

Mitchell senior Shamus McLean shot a three-over-par round of 74 to earn medalist honors, besting Fisher Hirsch of Wesleyan by one stroke. McLean, who also earned medalist honors two other times this fall at Shennecossett, carded a birdie on the front nine and followed that up by making eagle on the on the 500-yard par-5 18th hole to post the low round of the day. 

Jaxon Hinshaw finished the day with a 16-over-par 87, good for 12th place overall. Ryan King (92) and Micheal Thompson (106) rounded out the scoring for the Mariners. 

Francis Braun paced Western Connecticut with a round of 78 to finish tied for third overall with Jonah Dupuis of Eastern Connecticut, while Ian Reynolds turned in the low round for Emmanuel at 81.
