Manning Leads Daniel Webster to Victory Over Mitchell Lacrosse

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Ryan Manning (Newport, N.H.) scored 10 goals and led the Eagles of Daniel Webster College to their first win of the season and a 20-16 win over Mitchell College this afternoon.  Zach Ledvina (New Bedford, Mass.) led the Mariners with six goals and two assists in the loss.

The Eagles got on the scoreboard first with an early first quarter goal by Manning, but Mitchell answered within 20 seconds to even the score at one.  Mitchell got another quick goal by Adam Grillo (Waterford, Conn.) to take a 2-1 lead, but that would be the last time that the Mariners were in the lead.  Daniel Webster would score six unanswered goals to take a 7-2 lead into the beginning of the second quarter.

Mitchell was down 10-7 at the half, and 16-11 at the end of the third period, but the Mariners would rally in the fourth quarter to cut the lead to 16-15 at the 12:11 mark.  Ledvina and Ian Gosselin (Uncasville, Conn.) each scored two goals apiece in the last quarter, but DWC would score three of the last five goals of the game to notch their first victory of the 2009 season.

Grillo scored four goals and added an assist, while Gosselin finished with three goals and three assists on the day.   Mike Jordan (Wakefield, Mass.) and Michael Tremblay (Worcester, Mass.) each chipped in with three goals for the visiting team.

In goal, Gregory Jameson (Newington, Conn.) made 10 saves for the home team, while his counterpart, Tom Driscoll (South Boston, Mass.) stopped six shots for Daniel Webster.

The Mariners, 0-8, are back in action on Monday, April 20th when they travel to Nichols College.
