Mount Saint Vincent Defeats Mariners

Yonkers, N.Y. - The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Lacrosse team had 12 different players score goals on Thursday and had six players net at least two as it cruised to a 22-2 victory over Mitchell. Sophomore Mike Shea (Congers, N.Y.) led the offensive attack with four markers, while rookie Rowan Frederick (Brooklyn, N.Y.) handed out five assists.

The Dolphins scored the first nine goals of the game before Mitchell's Adam Grillo put the Mariners on the board with 6:08 left before halftime. Brian Zambri (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored a man-up goal for the Dolphins over that stretch and Shea netted a goal with the Mount a man down.

After the Grillo marker for Mitchell the Dolphins went back to work to score 13 straight goals with Chris Guastamacchia (Goshen, N.Y.) scoring two goals, Bill Raftery (Bronx, N.Y.) scoring a goal and Ryan Brunelle (Carmel, N.Y.) netting back-to-back tallies in the fourth quarter.

Grillo and Zach Ledvina (New Bedford, Mass.) each finished with one goal apiece for the Mariners who are now 0-3 on the season.  Gregory Jameson (Newington, Conn.) made 10 saves and picked up six ground balls.

Frederick picked up eight groundballs to lead the Mount, while Valance scooped five. Overall in the game Mount Saint Vincent picked up 60 groundballs to 36 for visiting Mitchell.

For the game, the Dolphins also held the edge in shots 49-23 and won 16 of the 28 face-offs taken. Mount Saint Vincent was successful on 17 clearing attempts and went 2-4 with extra man opportunities.

The Mariners are back in action on Thursday, March 26th when they will be looking for their first win of the season against Saint Joseph College at 4:00 pm.
