NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College men's lacrosse team dropped a 15-5 final to Becker College on Saturday afternoon at New London High School.

David Deschenes netted seven goals and added two assists to lead the Hawks (2-3 overall) to victory. Joe Ignagni, James Ahern and Jeff Petersen each contributed two scores while goalie Michael Munoz made 11 saves against 30 shots.

Junior Adam Grillo and freshman Erik Vasquez scored a pair of goals each to lead the Mariners (2-1 overall). Freshman goalie Peter Eshenfelder finished with seven saves.

Becker led 3-1 after the opening quarter but took advantage of a Mitchell penalty early in the second to open up its lead. The Mariners were called for an illegal body check that resulted in a one-minute non-releasable penalty. The Hawks made the most of the 60 seconds and scored three man-up goals—the final two from Deschenes—to take a 6-1 lead.

Becker outscored Mitchell 7-1 in the second quarter and enjoyed a 10-2 lead at the halftime intermission. Deschenes scored five goals in the first half to lead the Hawks' attack.

Grillo netted a goal in the third quarter and added his second midway through the fourth, but it wasn't nearly enough. Becker scored a pair of man-up goals in the second half and was deadly on the power play all day, scoring on six of eight chances with a man advantage. Mitchell went just 1-for-6 on extra-man opportunities.

Mitchell will next play at the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Wednesday, March 23 at 7:30 p.m.
