LAX Earns ECAC Postseason Bid

CENTERVILLE, Mass. – The Mitchell College men's lacrosse team will make its postseason debut at the 2011 ECAC Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship this weekend, as announced on Monday by the Eastern College Athletic Conference.

Mitchell was one of five teams selected to participate in the event. The Mariners will open the tournament with a semifinals game at Western New England College on Saturday, May 14 at 7:30 p.m.

Mitchell (9-3 overall) and WNEC (14-5 overall) were the only schools from New England that made the field. The winner of the match-up will advance to the championship game on Sunday, May 15 at 1 p.m. All semifinal and championship games will be hosted by WNEC.

The other three teams are on the other side of the bracket. The tournament begins with a midweek "play-in" game between Morrisville State College (12-4 overall) and Hartwick College (8-8 overall), and the winner of that game will face Marywood University (11-6 overall) for a spot in the finals.

Mitchell was rewarded for posting one of the top turnarounds in the country this season. Under first-year head coach Derek Marks, the Mariners went from a two-win team in 2010 to a school-record nine victories in 2011.
