LAX Comes Up Short at Anna Maria

PAXTON, Mass. – The Mitchell College men's lacrosse team dropped a 10-4 final to Anna Maria College on Saturday afternoon at AMCAT Field.

Chris Summers and Grant Pilkington each netted a hat trick to lead the AMCATS (3-3 overall). Freshman Jordan Cook paced the Mariners (0-4 overall) with two goals while senior Adam Grillo and sophomore Aaron Feinberg also added scores.

Anna Maria tallied the game's first four goals and never trailed in the contest. Cook finally got the Mariners on the scoreboard with eight seconds to go in the first quarter, and Mitchell cut the deficit in half in the second stanza thanks to a goal by Feinberg off a feed from sophomore Shane Sullivan. Jason Baker netted the final goal of the half to put Anna Maria on top 5-2 at intermission.

Grillo scored the first goal of the second half on a man-up opportunity as the Mariners once again made it a two-goal game. The margin was the same after Cook added his second goal of the day to start the fourth quarter, but that would be the last time the Mariners would find the back of the net. Anna Maria bookended the contest with the final four goals and went 2-for-4 on extra-man chances in the quarter.

Sophomore goalie Peter Eshenfelder faced 32 shots and finished with 13 saves. Andrew Ellis made nine stops between the pipes for the AMCATS.

Mitchell returns to action at Becker College on Tuesday, March 20 at 4 p.m.
