LAX Rolls to 12-1 Win vs. SUNY Canton

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Mitchell College cruised to a 12-1 victory over SUNY Canton on Sunday afternoon in non-conference men's lacrosse action at New London High School.

The Mariners (4-2 overall) scored the first seven goals of the contest and held a 45-22 edge in shots. Sophomore Jordan Cook and freshman Aaron Sladyk each netted hat tricks to lead the way while junior David Klapp added a pair of scores.

Patrick Connelly scored the lone goal for the Roos (1-3 overall) off a feed from Rob Gleason midway through the third quarter.

Mitchell dominated the face-off spot behind strong performances by junior Demetre Lyras and sophomore Joshua Muckle. Lyras went 11-for-12 at the face-off spot while Muckle won all five of his faces.

The Mariners took the lead in the opening minutes when Lyras found Cook for his first goal of the contest. Cook then made it 2-0 six minutes later with an unassisted effort, and Sladyk closed out the first quarter scoring with his first tally at the 4:45 mark.

Mitchell doubled up the lead in the second period, with Muckle, Sladyk and junior Shane Sullivan all finding the back of the net. Sullivan finished with a goal and three assists in his first game back after missing the last four games due to injury.

Cook completed his hat trick in the opening moments of the second half to give the Mariners a 7-0 lead. Connelly's goal cut the deficit to six with 9:09 remaining in the stanza, but junior Chris Joy and Klapp scored goals within a 30-second span to pump the lead to 9-1.

Sladyk notched his hat trick—the first of his career—early in the fourth quarter. Klapp later added his final goal of the day off a pass from Cook, and sophomore A.J. Fialkowski closed out the scoring with his first goal of the season.

Junior Peter Eshenfelder finished with 13 saves between the pipes for the Mariners. Corey Spuck played the first three quarters for the Roos and made nine saves while back-up Jeff Hammond made one stop in the final 15 minutes.

Mitchell will next play at the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Wednesday, March 20 at 7 p.m.
