LAX Keeps Rolling with Win at MSV

YONKERS, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team was doubled up on Tuesday afternoon by visiting Mitchell College by a score of 10-5. 
 
Mount Saint Vincent never led in the game and found itself trailing 2-0 after first quarter goals by Mitchell's Demetre Lyras and Shane Sullivan. David Klapp opened the scoring in the second quarter with his first of four goals in the game to give the Mariners a 3-0 edge with 13:46 left until halftime.
 
Trailing by three goals, the Dolphins scored two of the next three to pull to within 4-2. Mike McEnaney scored at the 12:58 mark and then Petito tallied a man-up goal at 10:16.
 
Klapp answered with his second tally of the game just 10 seconds after the Petito marker, but Matt Barlow and Frank Maddaloni answered for the Dolphins in the final nine minutes to get the Mount to within a goal at 5-4 heading into the intermission.
 
The one-goal deficit would be as close as the Mount would get, as Mitchell outscored Mount Saint Vincent 5-1 after halftime. Pat McEnaney scored with 2:44 left in the third period to cut the deficit to 7-5, but Mitchell would get three goals in the fourth, including a man-up goal from Klapp, to close out the win.
 
Petito led the Dolphins with five groundballs in the game and added a pair of caused turnovers. Joe Esposito picked up three groundballs and caused two turnovers, with Liam McHugh and Derek Wilson scooping four groundballs each. Wilson finished the game with eight face-off wins for the Mount.
 
Klapp added three groundballs to his scoring output and Lyras scored twice and won nine face-offs for the visitors. Maxx Crowley led Mitchell with five groundballs and four caused turnovers.
 
Kyle Kalibat made 12 saves in goal and added a groundball. Kalibat has now made at least 10 saves in a game on five occasions in 2013. Peter Eshenfelder finished up with 18 stops to earn the win and picked up three groundballs.
 
For the game, Mount Saint Vincent held a 39-35 edge in shots, while Mitchell held a convincing 40-28 advantage in groundballs. The Mariners also won 10 of the 18 face-offs taken in the game.
 
Mitchell will next host Daniel Webster College on Saturday, April 6 at 7 p.m. A win for the Mariners would clinch their first ever New England Collegiate Conference regular season championship.
