LAX's Lyras, LeMay Sweep NECC Weekly Honors

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – A pair of Mitchell College men's lacrosse players were honored by the New England Collegiate Conference on Monday.

Senior Demetre Lyras was named NECC Player of the Week for the second time this season while freshman JD LeMay was tabbed NECC Rookie of the Week for the fourth time. The duo led Mitchell to a pair of wins last week and clinched a second straight conference championship. The NECC title is determined through regular season play, and for the second year in a row the Mariners went undefeated against their league counterparts (Daniel Webster College, Becker College and Regis College).

Lyras finished with a team-high nine points last week to spark the Mitchell offense. He recorded two goals and an assist at Daniel Webster and went 12-for-17 in face-offs as the Mariners repeated as conference champs. He also netted a career-high six goals in a win at Albertus Magnus College earlier in the week.

LeMay was strong in goal for the Mariners in both games, recording a 4.20 goals-against average and a total of 19 saves. He finished with 12 saves in the win at Albertus Magnus and allowed only one goal in 54-plus minutes of action at Daniel Webster.

Lyras earned player of the week status for the third time in his career. He leads the team in scoring with 26 goals and six assists for 32 points and is tied for the team lead in ground balls (45).

LeMay has started all 11 games this season and sports a goals-against average of 7.73. His 146 saves are the most in the NECC and he also ranks second in save percentage (.632).

Mitchell (7-4 overall, 3-0 NECC) will next play at Rivier University on Tuesday, April 15 at 7 p.m.
