LAX Falls at Salve Regina in ECAC Semifinals

NEWPORT, R.I. -- Mitchell College was eliminated from the 2014 ECAC Division III New England Men's Lacrosse Championship by a 21-7 final at Salve Regina University on Wednesday night.

Salve Regina advances to Friday's title game and will host Becker College. Mitchell ended the season with an overall record of 8-8.

Senior Shane Sullivan led the Mariners with three goals while classmate David Klapp chipped in with two and sophomores Dan DiGioia and Aaron Sladyk added one apiece. Freshman goalie JD LeMay finished with 22 saves on the night as Salve outshot Mitchell 68-21. Curtis McKeon, Cam Brazill and Sharp Jones each netted four goals to pace the Seahawks while Alex King contributed three and Blake Dowe added two.

McKeon and King each scored a pair of goals in the first quarter as Salve Regina opened up a 7-2 lead. The Seahawks increased the margin to 13-3 at the half as Jones added two markers in the second quarter.

Klapp scored both of his goals in the second half while Sladyk and Sullivan each had one, but it wasn't nearly enough. The Seahawks cruised to the win as goalies Andrew Watkins and Brian Farina combined to make only three saves.

Despite the loss, Sullivan and fellow seniors Demetre Lyras, Wayne Brookbanks and Aaron Feinberg all made their third appearance in the ECAC Championship. The senior class finished with 31 wins over four seasons and nabbed a pair of NECC titles in the process.
