Men's LAX Holds Off Mount Saint Vincent for First Win


YONKERS, N.Y. - The Mitchell College men's lacrosse team picked up its first win of the season on Wednesday evening, topping the College of Mount Saint Vincent by a final score of 9-8 at Tibbetts Brook Park.

Dan DiGioia and Jordan Cook each scored two goals and added an assist in the victory to pace the offense. Goalie JD LeMay finished with 16 saves and six ground balls while Maximilian Crowley caused a team-high three turnovers and went 7-for-13 in the face-off spot.

Mitchell fell behind 1-0 in the opening minutes but closed out the first quarter with three goals over the final 3:29. Cook got the Mariners on the scoreboard and tied the game at 1-1, and Tyler Desances and A.J. Fialkowski followed suit to secure a 3-1 lead.

The Dolphins closed the gap in the second quarter as DiGioia netted the only Mitchell goal of the stanza. Rob Lalli's tally with five seconds remaining in the half brought MSV to within one at 4-3.

The teams traded goals in the third quarter as Brian Jordan potted his first career goal for the Mariners. Mitchell took a 5-4 lead into the final frame but saw MSV tie the game just 25 seconds in despite being a man down.

The Mariners responded with back-to-back scores from Chevy Perry and Aaron Sladyk to go up 7-5. After Connor McBride brought the Dolphins back to within one with 4:50 to go, Cook and DiGioia each added their second goals of the contest to pad the cushion to 9-6. Mitchell then held on as MSV rallied for a pair of scores in the final 1:28. Will Ryan-Johnson came up with a huge ground ball with 20 seconds to play to secure the win for the Mariners.

Mitchell (1-2 overall) will next host Daniel Webster College on Saturday, March 21 at noon. The game will be held at Stonington High School in Pawcatuck, Conn.
