Men's LAX Tops Emerson 6-3

PAWCATUCK, Conn. – The Mitchell College men's lacrosse team picked up a 6-3 victory over Emerson College in non-conference action Wednesday night at Stonington High School's Donald E. Palmer Field.

Six different players found the back of the net as the Mariners (3-2 overall) won their third straight game. Joshua Muckle won 12 of 13 face-offs on the night and also added a goal. Goalie JD LeMay finished with 10 saves and allowed a season-low three goals against 33 total shots.

Nick Kitsos paced Emerson (3-4 overall) with a goal and an assist while Diego Rosende and Calvin Bussiere added tallies. Jordan Maue made 10 stops in goal against 38 shots.

Mitchell struck first as Tyler Kradas scored less than five minutes into the contest. Muckle then tacked on a score with 3:35 to go in the opening quarter, and the Mariners were close to shutting out the Lions in the stanza before Kitsos scored with just eight seconds remaining.

Rosende started the second quarter scoring and tied the game at 2-2 with a score at the 12:53 mark. However, Mitchell pulled back in front on a goal by Aaron Sladyk with 5:13 to play in the half, and Dan DiGioia made it 4-2 less than a minute later.

The Mariners took the two-goal cushion into intermission and padded the lead with a pair of goals in the third quarter. McCarthy Brodaski fed Jordan Cook for the first and later added an unassisted effort to give Mitchell its biggest lead at 6-2. Bussiere's goal with 1:02 to go in the third quarter cut the deficit to three, but it would be as close as Emerson would get.

Neither side let up a goal in the fourth quarter as the Mariners cruised to the finish. LeMay made seven of his 10 stops in the second half while Maue posted six.

Mitchell will next host Rivier College on Saturday, March 28 at Stonington High School at 6:45 p.m. Emerson returns to action at Mass Maritime Academy on Saturday at 1 p.m.
