Slow Start Costs Men's LAX at Rivier


NASHUA, N.H. - The Rivier University men's lacrosse team scored 16 goals for the second consecutive game, defeating visiting Mitchell College by an 16-11 final on Saturday afternoon at Raider Field.

Rivier improved to 5-2 while Mitchell fell to 1-5 on the season.
 
Kyle Graham netted the game's opening two tallies as the Raiders jumped out to a 7-1 lead and never looked back. Graham finished with four goals and an assist to lead the team while Ryan Coombs added three goals and four assists. Both Colby Larsen and Liam Ryan chipped in with three goals for the Raiders while Joe Kelland found the back of the net twice on the afternoon. Chris Pennie chipped in with a single tally to account for all 16 goals.
 
Mitchell saw Jacob Setzko and Owen LaPorte pace the offensive effort with three goals apiece. Dan DiGioia added a goal and two assists while Will Ryan-Johnson, Aaron Sladyk and Kyle Marsh each contributed a tally.
 
Rivier netminder Clark Plummer stopped seven of 17 shots on net for his fifth win of 2016. His counterpart, JD LeMay, recorded saves on 11 of 27 shots he faced.
 
Mitchell next opens conference play at Becker College on Saturday, April 2 at 1 p.m.
