LAX Beats Daniel Webster to Stay Unbeaten in NECC

NASHUA, N.H. - Mitchell College was propelled by a five-goal, two-assist effort off the bench from Jacob Setzko while Owen LaPorte added two goals and five assists in a 13-7 win at Daniel Webster College on Saturday at Eagle Field.

The Mariners (3-5 overall, 2-0 NECC) never trailed after building a 3-0 lead after one and a 7-2 lead at the half. McCarthy Brodaski and Dan DiGioia added two goals and two assists each for the winners. DiGioia recorded his 100th career point in the contest, becoming just the fourth player in the school's Division III era to reach the milestone.

Collin Malone paced the Eagles (5-5, 1-1 NECC) with three goals and added five grounders while David Downie picked up two assists. DWC got single scores from Anthony Cotoni, Russell Applegate, Domanic Darenzo and Tre Mason. Matt Capozzi shined for DWC by winning 18 of 23 face-offs and led both squads with a game- and career-high 10 ground balls.

JD LeMay posted 13 saves in goal for the Mariners, including seven stops in the first quarter. Curtis Larade and Harley Hagan combined for 14 Eagle saves.

Mitchell finished with a decisive difference in total shots (47-39) and shots on goal (27-20) and went 3-for-5 on the power play while limiting DWC to a paltry 0-for-8 on the man advantage.

LaPorte set up the first three Mitchell goals of the game with DiGioia making it 1-0 just 1:48 in and Setzko potting two 1:29 apart later in the quarter for a 3-0 game. DiGioia upped it to 4-0 4:20 into the second and DWC got on the board 20 seconds later on Malone's first.

Mitchell followed with the next three scores to take control. Goals from Setzko and Aaron Sladyk to open the third quarter made it 9-2 before DWC rallied to post the next three from Darenzo, Mason and Cotoni to make it a 9-5 game.

However, the Mariners answered behind Setzko's fifth to close the third, and Brodaski opened the fourth with a tally that was followed by two from Laporte for a 13-5 game. Malone tacked on the final two scores for DWC inside the final five minutes.

Brian Jordan led Mitchell with a team-high nine ground balls.

Mitchell has now won three of its last four games and will next host Wheelock College on Monday, April 11 at 3:30 p.m.
