Men's LAX Falls Short at Mount Ida


NEWTON, Mass. – The Mitchell College men's lacrosse team came up on the short end of an 11-7 final at Mount Ida College on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.

Lukas Stralka had five goals and two assists and Alex Zito won 15 of 16 face-off attempts to help Mount Ida snap a two-game skid. The Mariners, who dropped to 4-6 on the season, got two goals apiece from Owen LaPorte and Jacob Setzko.

Stralka scored on assists from Wyatt Sullivan on three occasions, including bookending a 3-0 Mustang run to start the second quarter as Mount Ida (6-7 overall) turned a 1-1 game into a 5-3 halftime advantage.

The Mariners pulled back to within a goal at 5-4 on Kyle Marsh's 16th goal of the year to start the third period. However, Jon Berry struck with 2:27 left in the third, and Mount Ida scored the first four goals of the final quarter to pull away. Stralka added a pair of goals in the fourth while Peter Hardy tacked on his second of the game.

Mount Ida got 12 saves from Cam Hayward, while JD LeMay made 18 stops in the losing effort for Mitchell. Dan DiGioia had a goal and assist for Mitchell while Aaron Sladyk recorded his 11th tally of the year.

Mitchell returns to action at Albertus Magnus College on Thursday, April 21 at 4 p.m.
