NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Coast Guard Academy men's lacrosse team picked up a 20-2 victory over Mitchell College on a rainy Tuesday afternoon at Cadet Memorial Stadium.

Benner Geurtsen finished with three goals and three assists as the Bears improved to 6-3 on the year. Tyler Grills, Ian Logan and Riley McNulty also netted hat tricks on the day as Coast Guard outshot Mitchell by a 55-19 margin. 

The Mariners got goals from Kyle Marsh and Adam Liudzius while goalie JD LeMay made 19 saves in the cage. Marsh also finished with a team-high five ground balls while Zach Nailon caused three turnovers.

Coast Guard dominated time of possession in the opening quarter and led 4-0 after the first 15 minutes. McNulty scored a pair of goals in the period while Geurtsen added a goal and an assist.

The Bears opened it up in the second quarter and tacked on six more goals. McNulty completed his hat trick with 4:26 to go in the half, and a score by Logan Morin in the final seconds gave Coast Guard a 10-0 lead at the break.

Mitchell trailed 12-0 before Marsh broke through for a tally with 9:18 left in the third. Liudzius added his goal just over three minutes later to make it a 13-2 game.

Coast Guard played three goalies in the contest. Trey Johnson got the start and didn't give up a goal in 15 minutes of action. Charles McAllister made three saves in 30 minutes while Connor Hoehle wasn't tested in the final 15 minutes.

Mitchell (1-6 overall) will next play at Daniel Webster College on Saturday, April 8 at 3 p.m. Coast Guard returns to action at Clark University on Saturday at 7 p.m.
