USMMA LAX Wins Battle of Mariners

KINGS POINT, N.Y. - The Mitchell College men's lacrosse team dropped a 23-3 decision at the Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference showdown at Brooks Stadium.

Kyle Marsh had a hand in all three goals, scoring twice while dishing out an assist. Jesse McKeever scooped up a team-high four ground balls and was credited with three of the team's five caused turnovers. Goalie Marcel Quinlan made 11 saves between the pipes.

Pat Coll led USMMA with three goals and three assists. Jack Renard and Nick Treon contributed two goals and four assists apiece.

Merchant Marine scored twice in the opening 33 seconds before Mitchell could respond. The answer came just over a minute later as Marsh scored on an unassisted effort to cut the deficit in half. Two minutes later, Mitchell had a man advantage when Marsh found Jade Shields for the game-tying score.

The rest of the quarter belonged to USMMA. The home team scored nine straight to take a 9-2 lead into the second period. Merchant Marine then outscored Mitchell 7-1 to lead 18-3 at the halftime intermission.

Mitchell (0-7 overall) will play its home opener against Western Connecticut State University on Wednesday, April 4 at 4 p.m.
