LAX Drops NECC Opener at Dean

FRANKLIN, Mass. -- The Mitchell College men's lacrosse team opened New England Collegiate Conference play with a 17-3 loss at Dean College on Saturday morning at Grant Field.

Dean, which was picked first in the NECC preseason coaches poll, raced out to a 12-1 lead in the first half and never looked back. Seven Bulldogs scored in the contest, including four goals apiece from Colin Hinrichs and Anthony Trasacco and three more from Conor Rooney.

Kyle Marsh scored all three goals for the Mariners and also finished with seven ground balls. Jade Shields recorded an assist while Jesse McKeever scooped up a team-high eight ground balls and caused three turnovers.

The Bulldogs led 7-0 after a first quarter that saw Trasacco record a hat trick and Hinrichs score two of his own. The Mariners finally got on the board when Marsh found the back of the net with a man-up strike midway through the second quarter. Dean, however, went on to close out the half with five straight goals as Rooney and Hinrichs scored twice and Justin Auger notched his first of the season.

The Bulldogs continued their unanswered scoring streak with four more in the third led by tallies from Zach D'Angelo, Brody Fredericks, Trasacco and Juniel Jordan. Rooney completed his hat trick with his third marker of the game in the early moments of the fourth. Marsh notched two goals in the final seven minutes to account for all of Mitchell's scoring.

Dillion Poignant made his first start of the season and made 11 saves ing goal for Dean, who also got two goals and four assists from Fredericks and nine ground balls from Derick Adams and James Lovely. Mitchell goalie Marcel Quinlan finished with five saves.

Mitchell (0-9 overall, 0-1 NECC) will next play at Coast Guard Academy on Wednesday, April 11 at 7 p.m
