LAX Comes Up Short at Purchase

PURCHASE, N.Y. -- Mitchell College came up just short in a 13-11 loss at Purchase College on Wednesday night in non-conference men's lacrosse action.

Neither team led by more than two goals in a tightly-contested game that saw the Mariners carry a 10-9 lead into the final stanza. After a goal by Jade Shields put Mitchell up by two with 7:57 remaining in the contest, Purchase responded with four straight tallies to pull ahead for good. Dylan Gethicker put the Panthers in front with 2:38 to go and later tacked on an insurance marker with 50 seconds left.

Kyle Marsh paced Mitchell with five goals and a pair of assists while Shields added four scores and a helper. Adam Liudzius also had a strong game, scooping up a game-high seven ground balls while going 14-for-27 in face-offs. Marcel Quinlan made 15 stops in goal against 51 total shots.

Gethicker finished with five goals and four assists to lead Purchase, which improved to 3-2 on the season.

Mitchell (1-6 overall) will next play the College of Mount St. Vincent on Saturday, March 23 at Gaelic Park. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
