LAX Stumbles at Rivier

NASHUA, N.H. -- Mitchell College dropped a 14-2 decision to Rivier University on Wednesday night in non-conference men's lacrosse action at Joanne Merrill Field.

The Raiders (1-2 overall) were led by Jacob Enwright and Nick Akerman, who each netted four goals for an offense that outshot the Mariners 52-16. Ben Fitzpatrick secured the win in goal and finished with three saves on the night.

Jade Shields accounted for both of Mitchell's goals, raising his team-leading total to 13 on the season.

The game was tight throughout the first quarter. After Akerman and Enwright each scored to put Rivier up 2-0, Shields tallied Mitchell's first goal on an unassisted effort with 2:59 to go in the quarter. The Mariners then started the second quarter with an extra-man advantage, and Shields quickly cashed in to tie the game at 2-2 just 12 seconds into the stanza.

From that point on it was all Rivier. The Raiders scored the next five goals to lead 7-2 at the break, and in the second half the home team added seven more scores while keeping the Mariners off the scoreboard.

Marcel Quinlan made 12 saves in goal for Mitchell while Desmond Knowles paced the defense with five ground balls. Daniel Simpson also accounted for two of Mitchell's four caused turnovers.

Mitchell (1-4 overall) will next play at Regis College on Wednesday, March 11 at 7 p.m.
