NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College men's lacrosse team dropped a 15-9 final to Albertus Magnus College on Thursday afternoon in non-conference action.

The Falcons (1-2 overall) picked up their first victory of the season behind a strong effort from Jon Olson, who had a hand in 13 of their 15 goals. He finished with game highs of five goals and eight assists while Charles Stewart chipped in four goals and Mykel Stinson added two goals and a helper.

Joe Schley paced Mitchell (1-3 overall) with a hat trick while Jade Shields and Ryan Foster each contributed two goals and an assist. The Mariners also got a goal and an assist from both James Giovanniello and Weston Schumacher in the contest.

Ethan LePain fed Schley for the game's first goal nearly two minutes in. The Falcons responded with three straight goals to take over the lead, with Olson sandwiching a score with a pair of assists. After a tally by Schumacher pulled Mitchell within 3-2 with 5:30 remaining in the first, Olson handed out assists on Albertus Magnus' next three markers to expand the margin to four.

Mitchell trailed 6-3 heading into the second quarter but closed the gap behind goals by Foster and Shields. However, the Falcons scored three times in the final 5:31 of the half—including man-up goals by Olson and Stewart—to lead 9-5 at intermission.

The two teams matched scores in the third quarter as Albertus Magnus took an 11-7 advantage into the final period. The Falcons led by 13-8 when Schley had a shot hit off the post, and Stinson collected the long rebound and raced up field. He quickly found Stewart for a one-on-one chance against the keeper, and Stewart buried the shot to pad the lead further.

Dane Walsh was solid in the cage for Albertus Magnus, making 14 saves against 23 shots. Jayme Toro had an impressive showing at the faceoff spot, going 19-for-26 while scooping up six ground balls.

Mitchell goalie Marcel Quinlan stopped seven of 22 shots in defeat.
