Men's LAX Tripped Up at NEC

HENNIKER, N.H. – The Mitchell College men's lacrosse team fell by an 18-6 final to New England College in New England Collegiate Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

NEC (4-3 overall), which led wire-to-wire, got off to a fast start as Reed Foster fed Charles Hacking on the first two goals of the game. After falling behind 3-0, Mitchell responded with goals from Joe Schley and Henri Poehlman, but goals from Foster and Connor Smith put the Pilgrims up 4-2 at the end of the quarter.

Hacking recorded his third of the game to begin the second before Jade Shields scored for the Mariners. The Pilgrims controlled play for the remainder of the half, however, as NEC got two goals from Patrick Storie and one apiece from Lucas Ferreira and Smith. The Grims led 10-3 at the break.

Coming out the half, Connor Smith scored his 100th career goal to put NEC up 11-3. Although Shields scored twice in the period, the Mariners still lost ground and went into the final period trailing 15-5.

In the fourth, Guershon Villiere picked up back-to-back tallies before Adam Morin scored his first career goal, making it 18-5. Shields added his fourth tally of the contest, but it was Mitchell's lone goal of the final stanza.

Mark Pasquariello and Luke Westcoat split time in goal for the Pilgrims, as the duo combined for 15 saves, with Westcoat picking up 13. Marcel Quinlan and Ethan Wheeler both saw time in the Mitchell goal, as Quinlan picked up 14 saves and Wheeler recorded four.

Shields, who also dished out an assist to go with his four goals, reached a career milestone on the day. His final goal, the 67th of his career, gave him his 100th career point.

Mitchell (2-4 overall) will next play at Johnson & Wales University on Wednesday, April 21 at 7 p.m.
