LAX Falls to Sage

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Russell Sage College came away with an 18-4 victory at Mitchell College on Friday afternoon in a non-conference showdown.

Bailey Martin paced the Gators (2-3 overall) with a game-high five goals and handed out three assists. Shea Obado and Kollin Matthews each added hat tricks while Ryan Hanna and Jake McElwee scored two goals apiece.

Four players found the back of the net for the Mariners, who dropped to 1-3 overall. Aidan Messuri and Dominick Reposa each supplied a goal and an assist in the contest.

The Gators never trailed at any point after outscoring the Mariners 6-1 in the opening period. Obado netted two of his three goals in the quarter as the visitors peppered the Mitchell goal.

The Mariners netted the first goal of the second quarter to pull within four, but the rest of the stanza belonged to Sage. The Gators scored seven straight goals to enter the halftime intermission up 13-2. Martin scored a trio of goals and assisted on another, and Hunter Brunelle recorded three assists in the period.

Martin tacked on his final goal of the day in the second half while Brunelle notched two more assists. The Gators led by as many as 15 late before James Giovanniello notched Mitchell's final tally with under a minute to go.

Sage goalie Michael Capitelli played all 60 minutes and finished with 14 saves. John Grieco and Steven Turchetta split time in the cage for the Mariners and had nine and 10 saves, respectively.

Mitchell will next play at Dean College on Tuesday, March 8 at noon.
