Men's LAX Tripped Up at Dean

FRANKLIN, Mass. – The Mitchell College men's lacrosse team suffered an 18-7 setback at Dean College on Tuesday afternoon at Grant Field.

Ethan LePain netted a hat trick and handed out one assist to lead the Mariners, who dropped to 1-4 overall. James Giovanniello added two goals and a helper while Aidan Messuri and John Porcelli tacked on one goal apiece.

Greg Centeio led all scorers with six goals and three assists to pace Regis (3-0 overall). Diego Alvarez-Segee also had a big day with four goals and two assists as the Pride held a 53-28 advantage in total shots.

Dean jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opening four minutes of the contest and never gave it back. The Pride extend the margin to 7-1 by the end of the quarter as Centeio found the back of the net four times to lead the charge.

Goals by Messuri and Porcelli pulled the Mariners to within 8-3 midway through the second quarter. However, Dean scored four more goals before intermission to lead 12-3 at the break. Alvarez-Segee netted two goals in the period and had a hat trick by halftime.

Giovanniello's second goal came in the third quarter, but it was Mitchell's only tally of the stanza. LePain later potted three goals in the final 7:36 of the game to close out the scoring.

John Grieco and Steven Turchetta each made 11 saves while playing 30 minutes in goal. Weston Schumacher led the Mariners with five ground balls and four caused turnovers. 

Mitchell will next play at Purchase College on Saturday, March 12 at noon.
