HENNIKER, N.H. – Second-seeded Mitchell College lost to top-seeded New England College by a 28-4 final in the title game of the 2022 New England Collegiate Conference Men's Lacrosse Championship on Saturday afternoon at Don Melander Field.

The Mariners trailed 4-2 after the opening quarter, but the Pilgrims scored eight more goals before intermission to lead 12-2 at the break. NEC then put the game out of reach by outscoring Mitchell 9-0 in the third quarter.

Lucas Ferreira, the NECC Offensive Player of the Year, tallied a game-high seven goals and added three assists for a 10-point day. Thomas Norton added five goals while TJ Nong recorded a hat trick. James Giovanniello paced Mitchell with a pair of scores, and Weston Schumacher and Dominick Reposa each chipped in goals.

Steven Turchetta and John Grieco combined to make 16 saves in goal for the Mariners, but it wasn't enough against NEC's offensive onslaught. The Pilgrims finished the game with a 71-23 edge in total shots and controlled possession time by winning 28 of 33 face-offs.
