MLAX Stumbles in Road Showdown at Albertus

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Mitchell men's lacrosse team battled wet and snowy conditions on Tuesday afternoon, and came out on the wrong end of a 26-1 final against Albertus Magnus College in a non-conference contest.

Nine different players scored for the Falcons, with Jon Olson notching 11 goals and seven assists to help guide Albertus to their fourth consecutive victory to begin the season. Matthew Hutchings added six goals and four assists, while Will Capalbo and Rocco Albanese potted two goals apiece for the home squad.

Weston Schumacher (Sherborn, Mass.) was the lone Mitchell player to find the back of the net, scoring his team-high sixth goal of the season at the 11:52 mark of the fourth quarter off an assist by Raphael Vogt (Montville, Conn.). Schumacher finished with nine shots, five of them on goal, and scooped up two ground balls.

Albertus jumped out to an early lead, scoring their first goal of the day 28 seconds into the game. The Falcons then tacked on another seven goals in the first quarter and eight more in the second frame to build a 16-0 advantage at halftime. Five more goals in each of the third and fourth quarters was more than enough to power Albertus to victory, their third game so far this spring in which they have scored 20 or more goals.

Wally Carroll made nine saves in goal for the Falcons, while Ethan Wheeler (Annapolis, M.D.) also racked up nine saves in the match. Keeano Gonzalez (New London, Conn.) led the Mariners with six ground balls.

Mitchell (0-6 overall) will return to action on Wednesday, March 22, when they travel for a road game against the College of Mount Saint Vincent at 3:00 pm. Albertus (4-0 overall) will visit Anna Maria for their next game on Saturday, March 18.
