Purchase Pulls Away for Victory Over MLAX

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Purchase College men's lacrosse team scored seven second half goals to pull away and defeated Mitchell College 10-0 on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.

Zach Collins paced the Panthers (3-5) with a game-high four goals and handed out two assists. Angus Goldman added a pair of goals and an assist, while Quran Langston, Ayotunde Otuyelu, Kevon Joseph, and Andrew Agosto scored one goal apiece.

Weston Schumacher (Sherborn, Mass.) and Jon Parra-Tobey (New London, Conn.) each got off seven shots for the Mariners, who dropped to 0-8 overall. Parra-Tobey and Keeano Gonzolez (New London, Conn.) each had scooped up six ground balls to lead the home team.

The Panthers never trailed at any point after outscoring the Mariners 2-0 in the opening period and 3-0 in the first half. Collins netted three of his four goals in the second half, when Purchase built upon their lead with four unanswered goals in the third frame.

Purchase goalie Will Boes played all 60 minutes and finished with five saves. Ethan Wheeler (Annapolis, M.D.) went the distance at goal for the Mariners and had 12 saves and three ground balls. 

Purchase won the ground ball battle 30-26, forced 30 Mitchell turnovers, and outshot the Mariners 36-17.

The Mariners (0-8 overall) will return to action on Saturday, April 1, when they travel to New York for a non-conference showdown with Manhattanville College.
