Haney Tabbed as NECC Rookie of the Week

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Mitchell College freshman Xavier Haney (Montville, Conn.) was named New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week for the sport of men's lacrosse, as announced by the league on Monday morning.

Haney earned the honor for the first time this season and is the first Mitchell player to receive a weekly award from the conference this spring.

The freshman scored five goals and added one assist for the Mitchell College men's lacrosse team in their two games this week, losses against Johnson & Wales University and Eastern Nazarene College. The five goals came in their conference opener against the Lions and were part of an 11 goal effort for the Mariners, a season high output for the team. He also scooped five ground balls and was credited for one caused turnover across the pair of games.

Through 11 games this season, Haney has registered seven goals, one assist, seven ground balls, and four caused turnovers.

The Mariners (0-11 overall, 0-1 NECC) will return to action on Wednesday, April 12, when they visit New England College for a conference showdown.
